4 days Workshop in Landskrona, Sweden, November, 2009

“My experience of the workshop was an entirely positive one. There will always be difficulties when a lot of people want to do the same thing simultaneously, especially when those things are of a technical nature (as things technical tend always to generate small but irritating problems) but the Storylab facilitators handled this very professionally, and the trainees constituted a brilliant help to the Storylab employees.”

“Before the workshop, I had expected to enjoy the writing part very much, but to benefit more from the technical parts – this because I have conducted a great deal of classes in creative writing myself through the years. However, while the enjoyment part was realized indeed, I found that I also learned a lot from the approach used to the participants by the facilitators. The need for a very basic, very personal kind of democracy – on “cellular level”, as it were – was made clear to me during the work with manuscripts and the sharing of stories. I realized the call for absolute respect, and a sort of total listening, which creates a special atmosphere in the group or (in my own case) the class. Indeed, the importance of the whole group process was impressed on me – being, as a teacher, perhaps too much used to focus on the individual participant’s results.”

“I am right now conducting a workshop in Digital Storytelling with my class, consisting of unemployed persons who live on social benefit but have found that they have a real wish to move on in life. I find myself trying to be by turns Nikoline, Thilde, Julie, Claus and Louise. Hopefully, by the time this workshop ends and another starts, I will have succeeded to internalize all these experiences and become simply “Gudrun, facilitator”!

4 Days Workshop, Landskrona November 2009

“The teachers were, apart from very friendly, very good at communicating the essence of Digital Storytelling,
It was quite amazing how the warming-up exercises created a special atmosphere and released our creativity.
The story circle was definitely the strongest moment, very emotional.
The tools and methods that were taught felt really useful. Plenty of Aha!-experiences!”

“I liked the way the group cohesion was strong from the start
Even when things got stressful and tense, the overall feeling was positive, authentic, creative.
And I really appreciated that the teacher team was so flexible,
I’m also happy that we managed to overcome the technical difficulties that we encountered.
I think this workshop is an essential step forward for the Digital Storytelling process in Landskrona, and that the knowledge and experience gained will plant many seeds.

Great job!”

International 3 dags Workshop August – 2008 – Maria Firmino-Castillo

“After the training, I felt confident enough to attempt the envisioning and implementation of several digital media-based community-building projects in Washington, DC, where I currently live- and in other locales, including Guatemala, where I was born.”

“I commend Anne and Nikoline for their vision, but also the hard work they put into making every moment at their center welcoming, engaging, and directly applicable – even empowering – to anyone wishing to move into this new and exciting field of democratized multimedia.”

Thank you!
- Maria Firmino-Castillo, Our stories project
